‘Doubt’ Surrounds CMP’s Hired Science

The health and safety information CMP provided to various state agencies—including the the Maine Public Utilities Commission, Public Advocate and the state’s public health director—about smart meters was provided by Exponent, Inc., a company that has defended the tobacco and asbestos industries in cancer cases.

Exponent is included in the book, Doubt is Their Product: How Industry’s Assault on Science Threatens Your Health, written by David Michaels, Ph.D., M.P.H., Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA.

An excerpt:

While some may exist, I have yet to see an Exponent study that does not support the conclusion needed by the corporation or trade association that is paying the bill.
