The Office of the Public Advocate twice advised Maine’s Public Utilities Commission to reject the installation of the smart meters, once in 2007, and once again, this year.
“There is a privacy issue,” says Eric Bryant. “And, if someone is able to hack into the metering system, they could shut down parts of the grid. And, that’s alarming.”
